Houston Dash waive forward Katie Stengel

The Houston Dash waived forward Katie Stengel, the Club announced today. Stengel joined the team in January 2020 and was part of Houston’s 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup Championship run, logging 11 appearances across all competitions. 


With seven NWSL seasonsunder her belt, Stengelhas scored 12 goals in 92 appearances. The forward was part of Utah Royals FC’s inaugural team in 2018, finishing the season as the team’s top goal-scorer with six goals. Stengel went on to score two crucial goals and tally an assist for the Royals in the 2019 season, starting in 16 of 24 appearances.


The Florida native began her professional career in Europe with Bayern Munich after graduating from a successful college career at Wake Forest in 2014 where she finished as the highest scoring player in school history with 50 goals in 75 games.The 27-year-old made her NWSL debut in 2015 with the Washington Spirit, starting in 10 of 19 appearances and contributing four goals. 


Following this transaction, the Dash now have 24 players on their active roster. The Dash are set to host Kansas City NWSL in their regular season home opener on Sunday, May 23 at BBVA Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
