El Salvador may feature stars such as San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Darwin Cerén, captain Andrés Flores and third all-time leading goalscorer Rodolfo Zelaya. Los Cuscatlecos advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup earlier this summer, marking the third time in the last four tournaments that the Salvadorans have reached the round of eight in that tournament.

Canada features two of the brightest young attacking talents in North America in 22-year-old Orlando City SC forward Cyle Larin, who has 41 goals in 82 appearances for his club team and five goals for Canada, and 16-year-old midfielder Alphonso Davies, who became the youngest player ever to win the Golden Boot in a confederation tournament when he led the 2017 Gold Cup with three goals.
