HOUSTON (Feb. 24, 2024) Houston Dynamo FC signed defender Obafemi Awodesu and midfielder Diego Gonzalez on a short-term loan from Dynamo 2. Both players will be eligible for tonight’s home opener, powered by Shell Energy, and again on Tuesday for the second leg of the Round One series against St. Louis CITY SC in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

This is the second short-term loan for Awodesu and Gonzalez, who joined the first team for the first leg of the Round One series match in St. Louis earlier this week. The duo has spent a significant portion of their preseason with the first team and joined the Dynamo for the 10-day trip to Guadalajara, Mexico and the final preseason match against Orlando City SC.

Additionally, Dynamo forward Amine Bassi and midfielder Héctor Herrera received their green card earlier this month and will not occupy an international roster spot. The team currently has eight players that have received their green cards, and the club is currently pursuing a green card for a handful of select players. In addition to Bassi and Herrera, the following players hold a green card; midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla, defender Franco Escobar, forward Sebas Ferreira, midfielder Ján Greguš, midfielder Artur and defender Brad Smith.
