KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Aug. 1, 2026) – Houston Dynamo FC earned their second consecutive shutout victory after defeating Sporting Kansas City 2-0 on the road behind attacker Guilherme's 10th goal of the season and midfielder Agustín Bouzat first goal of the year.
Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond contributed four saves in tonight's match, helping Houston secure their sixth clean sheet of the season. Additionally, the Dynamo are now unbeaten in their last five MLS matches.
The Dynamo took the lead in the 55th minute when Guilherme, who participated in this year’s MLS All-Star game, fired a low, long-range shot at the top of the box that skipped under the Sporting goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland and into the back of the net. Midfielder Jack McGlynn assisted on the play, notching his fifth assist of the season.
Notably, Guilherme has scored five goals in the last eight MLS matches, including a goal in back-to-back games, following his versus Austin FC on July 25.
Houston extended their lead in the 71st minute after capitalizing on a Kansas City error, with midfielder Agustín Bouzat netting his left-footed strike with ease. Calvin Harris was forced into giving the ball away by Houston’s high press, allowing the Argentinean to intercept the misplaced pass inside the box before firing his shot into the back of the net.
The first big chance of the match came for Houston in the 25th minute, as forward Lawrence Ennali dribbled into the box along the right side and cut back behind two defenders, and finding the foot of midfielder Héctor Herrera, whose low shot beat Cleveland, but was cleared off the line by Jake Davis to keep the score level.
The first half was a hotly contested one, with the two teams playing a very physical style – combining for 15 fouls in the first half alone. Just before halftime, that physicality boiled over, as SKC's Lasse Berg Johnson went into a hard tackle onto the plant leg of Dynamo captain and midfielder Artur. Referee Sergii Boiko allowed the play to continue as Houston had the advantage, but eventually brought the play back and brandished a second yellow for Johnson, reducing Kansas City to 10 men with an entire half yet to be played.
Houston came out of the halftime break hot, creating four attacking opportunities in the first five minutes of the second half, including a long-range from Artur in the 49th minute that forced a diving save from Cleveland.
