HOUSTON (Feb. 24, 2024) – Houston Dynamo FC signed midfielder and 2024 MLS SuperDraft selection Ousmane Sylla to a professional contract for the 2024 season with club options for the next three seasons, the club announced today.

Houston selected Sylla with the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft in December from Clemson University. In January, Sylla was named the recipient of the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy after his senior season, the most prestigious honor in college soccer awarded to the top player in men’s and women’s soccer.

“Ousmane is a tremendous young player who proved his talented skillset at the collegiate level, winning numerous individual accolades and team honors,” said General Manager Pat Onstad. “He joined us for preseason, where he confirmed why the club had its eye on him as we navigated the draft process. We are thrilled he will begin his professional career in Houston and look forward to watching him develop in the years to come.”

A native of Dakar, Senegal, Sylla led the Tigers in goals, assists and points last season. He was also named the MVP for the ACC Tournament and the College Cup, first team All-ACC, first team All-Atlantic Region and first team All-America.

Sylla finished last year ranked 14th nationally in total goals (13), eighth in total assists (10) and fifth in total points (36). He also finished 10th nationally in game-winning goals (5). He led the Tigers to their second NCAA Championship in three seasons, scoring a goal in the championship game against Notre Dame to put the Tigers up 2-0 at the time.

Sylla appeared in 71 matches and started 58 in four seasons at Clemson. The 22-year-old tallied 24 goals and 24 assists in his time with the Tigers, including careers highs in goals and assists during his senior season. Prior to playing collegiate soccer, Sylla played club soccer with the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy in Florida.

The Dynamo return to Shell Energy Stadium later today to host Sporting Kansas City in the regular season home opener, powered by Shell Energy. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
