Canada announces Algarve Cup roster and two-match series against Costa Rica in Winnipeg and Toronto

Canada Soccer announced the Algarve Cup roster, which features Houston Dash forwards Janine Beckie and Nichelle Prince, and a two-game series on June 8 in Winnipeg and June 11 in Toronto, earlier today.

Beckie scored the game-winning goal in Canada’s 2-1 victory over Brazil in the 2016 Algarve Cup championship to help the CanWNT claim its first Algarve Cup in program history. Canada will open the tournament against Denmark on March 1, two days later the defending champion will face Russia and close the tournament on March 6 against Portugal, the host nation.

The CanWNT will return Europe in April for friendlies against Sweden and Germany prior to hosting Costa Rica.

This will be the first meeting between both teams since last February where Canada defeated Costa Rica 3-1 in the semifinal of the 2016 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship at BBVA Compass Stadium. Prince saw action in that match as a second-half substitute.

Watch Beckie and Prince this spring at BBVA Compass Stadium with a Houston Dash Season Membership for the 2017 NWSL season. Memberships are now available and start at just $174.
