Former Houston Dynamo defender David Horst announced his retirement on Wednesday, concluding an 11-year MLS career.

Horst made 89 appearances for the Dynamo from 2014-16, scoring four goals. He was a mainstay at center back known for his imposing presence in the middle, starting 83 regular season games.

The Pine Grove, Pennsylvania native was drafted 14th overall in the 2008 SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake, and saw time with the RSL Reserves, Austin Aztex, and Puerto Rico Islanders on loan during his first three years of professional soccer. He was selected by the Portland Timbers in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft and made 39 appearances before his trade to Houston prior to the 2014 season. He returned to Salt Lake in 2017 as a free agent, but injuries limited his availability in his second stint in Utah, including an Achilles injury this season that led to his retirement.
