The Houston Dynamo Academy return to action this weekend after missing the third fixture of the MLS Next spring season due to the winter storm earlier this month.
Every age group of the Dynamo Academy will head north to face Solar SC at Gateway Soccer Park in Fort Worth on Saturday. This is the second road trip of the season for most of the age groups who traveled to San Antonio earlier this month.
“We are really excited to get back to playing MLS Next matches,” Dynamo Academy director Paul Holocher said. “Solar are a fantastic club and great competition. It is never easy to travel up there and compete and that is exactly the type of challenge we want.”
The Dynamo Academy was recently ranked third nationally in Soccer Wire’s most recent update and face a Solar SC program that was ranked ninth in the country. This will be the first meeting of the season between both academy programs who also received high rankings in the Soccer update for February.
Three Dynamo Academy age groups were ranked in the top 10 by Top Drawer Soccer, which include the U17 team that was ranked ninth in the country, the U14 squad was ranked seventh and the U13s were the highest ranked age group coming in at third nationally. Two additional programs were ranked in the top 20 nationally as the U15 side ranked 16th and the U19 squad was ranked 18th.
Solar SC ranked among the top 10 nationally in each age group by Top Drawer Soccer and this will be the highest ranked opponent so far this season for the Dynamo. The Dynamo U13 and U17 squads will open the series on Saturday at noon. The U15 and U19 teams will follow up at 2 p.m. and the U14 and U16 teams will close the series against Solar SC at 4 p.m.
