Houston Dynamo FC midfielder Darwin Cerén was named to the El Salvador National Team for a friendly against the U.S. Men’s National Team on Dec. 9, the federation announced last evening.
The friendly at Inter Miami CF Stadium will be broadcast live on an ESPN Network, UniMás and TUDN at 6:30 p.m. CT on Dec. 9. This will be the first meeting with the USMNT since the quarterfinal of the 2017 Gold Cup where the USMNT advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0 victory.
The midfielder finished the 2020 regular season with a career-high four assists and scored a goal in Houston’s 2-0 victory over FC Dallas on Oct. 7. Cerén appeared in 20 games last season and reached the 20-game mark for the first time since the 2018 season.
Cerén returns to international duty for the first time since the Concacaf Nations League matches in Nov. 2019. El Salvador closed their 2019 Concacaf Nations League campaign with four consecutive victories and only conceded one goal in six games.
