HOUSTON (Oct. 19, 2026) – Houston Dynamo FC midfielder Héctor Herrera was named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday for Matchday 31, the league announced today. The selection marks the Mexican’s second of the season, following his first recognition for Matchday 8 in April.
The Dynamo earned a key point versus FC Dallas on Saturday night, coming back from a first half deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against the in-state rivals at Shell Energy Stadium. The match midfielder Héctor Herrera'sthird goal of the season and attacker Mateusz Bogusz's eighth of the MLS campaign.
Herrera first leveled the score on a set piece in the 49th minute. Attacker Guilherme spun in a right-footed in-swinging corner kick to the streaking midfielder, who headed home near the back post. Herrera also finished the match with one key pass, a 92.1 percent passing accuracy and ranked second on the team with a 0.43 xG.
Houston took the lead in the dying moments of the match when Bogusz converted from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of second half stoppage. The penalty kick was awarded after Dallas player Nolan Norris was deemed to handle the ball inside the box. However, the in-state foe equalized a minute later with a penalty of their own.
Notably, the Dynamo clinched their place in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs this past weekend following Saturday's result, a 2-2 draw between the LA Galaxy and San Diego FC and a scoreless draw between the Portland Timbers and the Colorado Rapids. The postseason appearance marks Houston's third in the last four seasons. The team has won 13 matches during the 2026 regular season, with only three Western Conference teams recording more wins. Houston's 2026 playoff run is powered by Shell Energy.
Houston has avoided defeat in 13 of 16 matches since returning from the World Cup break and currently sit fifth in a tightly contested Western Conference table with four regular season matches remaining.
Houston continues a two-match homestand on Saturday, Oct. 24, hosting Minnesota United FC on Space City Night, presented by DUDE Wipes. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT, and fans can secure tickets to the match via Tixr HERE.
