The Houston Dynamo Unified team, presented by 76®, will be returning for a fifth season, with the Houston Dynamo and Special Olympics Texas holding tryouts for the third year, the two organizations announced today.

On Sunday, February 16, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Houston Sports Park will be open to individuals with and without intellectual disabilities for the opportunity to participate in various trainings, competitions and social experiences. To register or for additional information about the tryouts, please email Special Olympics Texas – Greater Houston area office at sohoustondynamo@gmail.com.

Houston-area media outlets are invited to cover the tryouts. Media may contact Valerie Holland at vholland@houstondynamo.com or 720-934-6995 with questions regarding the event.

The Dynamo, Special Olympics Texas, and 76® are collaborating in hopes of leveraging the power of sports to promote an environment of social inclusion and acceptance by uniting people with and without intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics Unified Sports.

Athletes selected to the Dynamo Unified team will get a true professional experience, starting with an introductory signing day, to playing Unified opponents around the league, such as traveling to take on FC Dallas Unified on May 16, and visiting the New York Red Bulls Unified team on July 11.

Dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences, Unified teams join people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding. Teams are made up of people of similar age and ability, which makes practices more fun and games more challenging and exciting for all. Having sport in common is just one more way that preconceptions and false ideas are swept away.
