HOUSTON (May 9, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC return to league play and kick off a two-match homestand on Saturday, May 10, when they host Seattle Sounders FC at Shell Energy Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT, and fans can secure their tickets HERE.
The Club will also host its marquee theme night of the year – the Season 20 Celebration on Alumni Weekend. Dynamo fans can look forward to meeting and reconnecting with Dynamo legends during pre-game autograph sessions on the concourse, as well as receiving a Pat Onstad bobblehead gate giveaway, presented by Heriberto Ramos & Associates, while supplies last. At 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, fans are invited to join Dynamo alumni legends at Discovery Green to play small-sided pickup games. Additionally, seven Dynamo Academy players will be acknowledged during a halftime ceremony for receiving their high school diplomas.
One lineup note for this weekend is that defender Franco Escobar will miss Houston’s next two MLS matches for yellow card accumulation and receiving a red card in the previous match versus LAFC.
Houston is coming off a midweek U.S. Open Cup victory after defeating USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC 4-1 in extra time on the road in the Round of 32 on Wednesday night. Houston and Phoenix each scored once in regulation, before the Dynamo secured the victory in extra time with goals from midfielder Jack McGlynn, forward Ezequiel Ponce and midfielder Sebastian Kowalczyk. In the first half, defender Felipe Andrade scored his first goal for the Dynamo. Notably, defender Pablo Ortiz, who Houston signed on loan from FC DAC 1904 in late March, made his Dynamo debut as a starter.
The Dynamo will now travel to face in-state rivals Austin FC in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, May 21, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the match live via Paramount+.
In regular season action, the Dynamo are coming off a 2-0 road loss to LAFC on Saturday. Notably, Dynamo captain and midfielder Artur made his 200th career MLS regular season start. Additionally, goalkeeper Jonathan Bond tied the Dynamo record for saves in any half with six saves in the first half, while ending the match with eight total saves.
Earlier this week, the Dynamo extended a first team loan from Fluminense FC in Brazil for Andrade. The loan runs through the 2025 season with an option to buy. The Brazilian joined Houston Dynamo 2 on loan in February, starting all six of his MLS NEXT Pro appearances this season. He contributed to two clean sheets and recorded one assist. Notably, Andrade made his first team debut with the Dynamo in a 2-1 friendly victory versus the El Salvador National Team in March.
The Sounders currently sit seventh in the Western Conference with 16 points through 11 matches on a 4-3-4 (WLD) record and are coming off a 4-1 home victory versus St. Louis CITY SC. Nouhou Tolo, Danny Musovski, Albert Rusnak and Obed Vargas each found the back of the net for Seattle.
In the most recent matchup between the two sides, Houston earned an important road point in a scoreless draw at Seattle in March and the team’s second clean sheet of the season. Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer and midfielder Júnior Urso both made their first Dynamo league starts that match, while goalkeeper Blake Gillingham made his Dynamo and MLS debut in replacement of an injured Maurer in the 67th minute. It marked the first time an MLS rookie has played in goal for the Dynamo since Nov. 3, 2021 (Kyle Morton). Defender Erik Sviatchenko also made his 50th MLS regular season appearance during the match.
The Dynamo have a Sounders legend on their roster in midfielder Nico Lodeiro, who played a pivotal role in Seattle’s success over the past decade, winning three trophies, including the MLS Cup in 2016 and 2019, as well as the Concacaf Champions League in 2022. Houston signed the Uruguayan international in February, and he has since appeared in 13 matches (five starts) in all competitions, scoring his first goal for the Dynamo versus Inter Miami CF on March 2.
