HOUSTON (Sept. 8, 2026) – Houston Dynamo FC return to Shell Energy Stadium to host Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, Sept. 9, on what will be Service Industry Night, presented by Raising Cane's. Houston remains one of the hottest teams in the Western Conference, sitting just three points behind top-seeded Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Houston holds a 12-7-4 (W-L-D) record on 40 points, tying the highest point total in team history through 23 matches (2012), while also posting a strong home record this season at 7-2-2 (W-L-D). Notably, Houston recently tied a league-record with a five-match shutout victory streak and held opponents scoreless for an impressive 485 minutes, the second-longest run over the last decade for the Dynamo.
Wednesday’s fixture marks the 13th matchup between Houston and Salt Lake in all competitions since head coach Ben Olsen took over ahead of the 2023 season, as well as the 42nd all-time MLS regular season meeting. Under Olsen, the Dynamo have a 6-5-1 (W-L-D) record versus Salt Lake across all competitions, including regular season, MLS Cup Playoffs, U.S. Open Cup and Leagues Cup play. Additionally, Houston holds an overall 11-4-5 (W-L-D) home record against Salt Lake in regular season action.
One lineup note for this match is that defender Felipe Andrade will serve a one-match suspension due to yellow card accumulation.
Houston is coming off a scoreless road draw versus Charlotte FC on Saturday. The result marked the team's 11th clean sheet of the season, the second-most in a single season in Dynamo history. It also marked Houston's seventh shutout in the last eight matches. Notably, defender Lucas Halter's performance earned his MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors for Matchday 24, his first selection of the season.
Salt Lake is coming off a 2-2 home draw versus LAFC on Saturday night and is 0-3-3 (W-L-D) in the last six matches. They sit 10th in the Western Conference with 29 points and an 8-9-5 (W-L-D) overall record, while Sergi Solans leads the RSL's attack with nine goals and Morgan Guilavogui leads the team with seven assists.
Dynamo attacker Guilherme has now scored or assisted on 63.3% of Houston's goals this season, one of the highest rates in MLS so far, and he is pursuing the all-time single-season record set by Sebastien Le Toux in 2010 for the Philadelphia Union at 71.4%. The Brazilian recently managed a four-match scoring streak, just one short of the Club’s all-time record, as forward Mauro Manotas managed five in 2019.
At the close of the league’s Secondary Transfer Window, the Dynamo announced the signing of English Premier League forward Lyle Foster on loan from Burnley FC. The South African international joins the Dynamo after spending the past four seasons with Burnley, making 89 league appearances and scoring 11 goals across the Premier League and EFL Championship, while earning 33 senior caps at the international level and scoring 11 goals. The latest transfer window saw Houston acquire two other impact players, including veteran defender **Marcelo Saracchi** on full transfer from the Argentinian top-flight's CA Boca Juniors on Aug. 11 and forward **Duncan McGuire** in a trade with Orlando City SC on July 10.
