The two Liga MX powers met on Sunday, Sept. 6, at Shell Energy Stadium, where Toluca earned a 2-0 victory to lift the Leagues Cup trophy before a sold-out crowd of 21,144 fans. Alexis Vega opened the scoring in the fourth minute, and Helinho added the second goal in the 70th minute. With the victory, Toluca became the first Liga MX club to win Leagues Cup in the competition's modern era.
The Oct. 3 matchup will bring Los Diablos Rojos and Rayados back to the same venue just 27 days after the championship match, with Toluca looking to build on its historic title and Monterrey seeking a different result in the rematch.
Toluca enters the matchup as the reigning Leagues Cup champion and back-to-back Liga MX champion after capturing the Clausura 2025 and Apertura 2025 titles. Founded in 1917, Los Diablos Rojos are one of Mexico's most decorated clubs with 12 Liga MX championships.
Founded in 1945, C.F. Monterrey is one of northern Mexico's most historic clubs and a five-time Liga MX champion. Rayados reached their first Leagues Cup Final this year after defeating Chicago Fire FC in the Quarterfinals and advancing past Club América in a penalty shootout in the Semifinals.
