Rio Grande Valley FC begins five-game homestand vs. Tulsa tonight

The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (6-5-6; 24 points) open a five-game homestand at 7:30 p.m. CDT tonight as they host Tulsa Roughnecks FC at the UT RGV Soccer Complex. The match will be streamed live above and here.

The Toros are seeking an end to a rare winless run that has reached four games following a scoreless draw at OKC Energy FC last Saturday as goalkeeper Callum Irving stopped a penalty kick. RGV FC has two draws and two defeats since a 3-0 home win over OKC on June 11. The Toros remain in a playoff position, in fifth place in the Western Conference of the USL. A win tonight could move RGV FC into a tie for fourth in the West, pending Colorado Springs’ game versus Seattle Sounders 2 Sunday night.

These teams met in the 2016 season opener, a 2-0 Tulsa win at ONEOK Field in RGV FC’s inaugural match. The Roughnecks (3-11-2; 11 points) are at the bottom of the Western Conference in the USL.

Rio Grande Valley FC will play five consecutive games at home before returning to the road August 18 at Tulsa.

Dynamo Academy alumnus Memo Rodriguez remains the team leader with four goals on the season while Charlie Ward leads the club with 1530 minutes played, the maximum through 17 games. Five players have appeared in all 17 games this season: Kevin Garcia, TJ Casner, Kai Green, Rodriguez and Ward.

*Note: The Dynamo and RGV FC have a hybrid affiliation, with the Dynamo in control of all technical aspects of the soccer operation, including the construction of the roster and the coaching staff. Meanwhile, the McAllen, Texas based Rio Grande Valley Vipers run the business operations, including the current construction of a 9,400 seat soccer stadium that will resemble Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium.
