HOUSTON (May 13, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC close a two–match homestand on Wednesday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. CT, hosting Minnesota United FC at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston’s first midweek MLS matchup of the season.
The Club will also host Half-Price Beer Night on Wednesday, where fans can look forward to half-price domestic bottled beer all night at Shell Energy Stadium. Additional information and tickets are available HERE.
The Dynamo have faced a formidable stretch of opponents to start the season, as nine of Houston’s 12 opponents are currently above the playoff line in their respective conferences, while the combined record of all 12 opponents is 56-50-37 (WLD).
One lineup note for this week is that defender Franco Escobar will miss Wednesday’s match to complete his two-match suspension for yellow card accumulation and receiving a red card during Houston’s match at LAFC on May 3. Additionally, defender Femi Awodesu will miss Wednesday’s match after receiving a red card on Saturday versus Seattle Sounders FC.
The Dynamo are coming off a 3-1 defeat to Seattle Sounders FC this past weekend. Awodesu scored his first-career MLS goal in the 32nd minute to tie the match at one goal apiece, however, the MLS rookie was shown a red card later in the first half after being deemed to have handled the ball and denied a goal scoring opportunity at the edge of the box. Midfielder Jack McGlynn recorded his fourth assist of the season, delivering the ball from a set piece to find Awodesu at the back post. Notably, the match saw defenders Felipe Andrade and Pablo Ortiz, as well as forward Toyosi Olusanya, make their MLS debuts.
Notably, Andrade and Ortiz made their Dynamo debuts last Wednesday in a 4-1 Round of 32 victory in the U.S. Open Cup versus USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC, where Andrade netted Houston’s opening goal and his first in orange.
In U.S. Open Cup action, Houston will travel to face in-state rivals Austin FC in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, May 21, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the match live via Paramount+.
Minnesota currently sits second in the Western Conference with 22 points through 12 matches, holding a 6-2-4 (WLD) record. The Loons are coming off a 4-1 home victory versus Inter Miami CF, with Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Robin Lod and Anthony Markanich each finding the back of the net. The third goal in the 68th minute was an own goal by Miami’s backline.
The Dynamo and the Loons met twice last season, with Houston earning a 2-1 victory in Minnesota in early April before playing to a 1-1 draw at Shell Energy Stadium in July. Midfielder Sebastian Kowalczyk scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory, while former Dynamo forward Sebastian Ferreira was Houston’s lone goal scorer in the draw.
Houston closes out the week with a Texas Derby on the road versus FC Dallas on Saturday, May 17, at Toyota Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT, and fans can watch the action live via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
