ToN: Brazil salvage draw, USWNT fall to Williams and Australia

Five Houston Dash players saw action in the Tournament of Nations doubleheader this evening in Seattle.


Andressinha and Brazil opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw with Japan. The midfielder played 90 minutes and her long-range shot in the final minutes of the first half forced a save from goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita. Bruna Benites entered the game at the start of the second half and logged 45 minutes for Brazil.


The U.S. Women’s National Team fell 1-0 to Lydia Williams and Australia. This was the first time in 28 attempts that Australia secured a victory against the USWNT.  Williams played 90 minutes and tallied three saves throughout the evening. One of those saves came against Carli Lloyd who entered the match in the second half. The midfielder’s shot from the top of the box was saved by Williams who tallied her first clean sheet against the U.S. Midfielder Morgan Brian also entered the game in the second half for her first appearance with the national team since March.


Lloyd, Brian and Jane Campbell will face Andressinha, Bruna and Brazil in San Diego on Sunday for the second match day of the tournament. Williams and Australia will play Japan in the first match of the doubleheader this weekend.
