Marcelo Palomino U-20 National Team Call Up

Houston Dynamo Midfielder Marcelo Palomino named to U-20 National Team Camp

HOUSTON – Houston Dynamo midfielder Marcelo Palomino was named to the first U-20 U.S. Men’s National Team camp of the year under new head coach Anthony Hudson.

The camp began earlier today and will run until Jan. 19 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.  Palomino and the rest of the U-20 squad will face Mexico on Jan. 16 and 18. This is the first camp for Hudson who will select the roster for this summer’s Concacaf U-20 Championship. The U-20 squad will compete in Group E against Costa Rica, Jamaica and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Palomino signed a Homegrown Player contract with Houston on Jan. 5 and is the 11th Dynamo Academy alumnus to sign a first-team contract with the club.

The midfielder began his youth national team career in 2014 when he was named to the U.S. U-14 Boys National Team. Since then, the Houston native has been a regular in the pool selected for the U-15, U-16, U-18 and U-19 U.S. squads. Palomino was most recently named to the U-20 National Team in Sept. 2019 when he joined current Dynamo Head coach Tab Ramos for two friendlies in Slovenia.

The 18-year-old has been a member of the Houston Dynamo Academy since the age of 11 and was named Dynamo Academy Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons from 2016-18. His third honor came after the 2017-18 season in which he scored 17 goals and tallied eight assists in 24 games, while playing up with the U-19 squad.
